Deluge Valve is known as a system control valve in a deluge system, used for fast application of water in a spray system. Deluge valve protects areas such as power transformer installation, storage tank, conveyor protection and other industrial application etc. With the addition of foaming agent deluge valve can be used to protect aircraft hangar and inflammable liquid fire
A Deluge System is a fixed fire protection system in which the pipe system is empty until the deluge valve operates to distribute pressurized water from open nozzles or sprinklers. Deluge systems are more complex than wet pipe and dry systems because they contain more components and equipment. The deluge valve is activated by operation of a fire detection system installed in the same area as the sprinklers. Various types of detection systems may be used, including smoke, heat, ultraviolet (UV), or infrared (IR) detection. The 4Matic deluge system can be activated by a hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, or manual release system or any combination of these release systems. But, in all cases, the deluge valve itself is activated hydraulically. When the detection device is activated, the deluge valve is tripped and water flows into the piping system, discharging through all spray nozzles or sprinklers simultaneously

Types and applications Deluge systems are used where conditions of occupancy or special hazards require quick application of large quantities of water. These systems are used to create a buffer zone in high-hazard areas or in areas where fire may spread rapidly, and they can also be used to cool surfaces to prevent deformation or structural collapse or to protect tanks, process lines, or transformers against explosion. Other examples include storage or process areas containing substances having a low flash point; tanks containing combustible solutions, equipment pits or product handling systems. When designing a deluge system, efforts should be made to acquire specific information regarding the hazard to be protected.

BASIC TRIM
The basic trim is required on deluge valve regardless of the release system. It contain those components which are required in all types of installation, such as the main drain valve, priming connection, drip check valve, emergency release valve and pressure gauges.
RESETTING PROCEDURE FOR
(i) Close the upstream side stop valve provide below the deluge valve.

(ii) Open both the drain valves and close them when the flow of water has ceased.

(iii) Inspect and release if required, or close the section of the detection system subjected to “Fire condition”.

INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
All the newly installed system piping network must be flushed properly before placing the deluge valve in service. A qualified and trained person must commission the system. After few initial successful tests an authorised person must be trained to perform inspection and testing of the system. It is recommended to have regular inspection and test run the system as per NFPA guidelines.
The trip time of deluge valve on of device through detection network, will depend on volume of detection network. If the trip time of deluge valve is more, then it can be substantially reduced by installing check valve in branch of release line in the detection network. The check
valve flow shall be towards releasing device.

  • 4Matic  Direct-Acting: The direct-acting type operates with either a flat diaphragm or convoluted bellows. Completely self-contained, it does not need an external sensing line downstream to operate.
  • 4Matic Internally Piloted Piston-Operated. This type incorporates a pilot and main valve in one unit. The pilot valve has a design similar to the direct-acting valve. The discharge from the pilot valve acts on top of the piston, which opens the main valve.
  • 4Matic  Externally Piloted. In this type, double diaphragms replace the piston operator of the internally piloted design. This increased diaphragm area can open a larger main valve, allowing a greater capacity per line size than the internally piloted valve.
  • pressure reducing and pressure sustaining valves are based on the 106-PG or 206-PG main valve with the addition of the sustaining pilot 81-RP and pressure reducing pilot PR-160.
  • Provided the upstream pressure setting is satisfied, the 81-RP pilot is kept open, permitting the valve to be controlled by the 160 pilot. The 160 pilot senses downstream pressure and under flowing conditions, it reacts to small changes in pressure to control the valve position by modulating the pressure above the diaphragm.
  • Should high demand cause the inlet pressure to fall to the 81-RP pilot setting, the upstream pressure has priority and the valve will modulate to prevent the upstream pressures from dropping below the set-point.
  • When the valve is modulating to sustain upstream pressure above the minimum 81-RP pilot set-point, the downstream 160 pilot may try to open the valve to maintain its set-point, but upstream has priority and downstream pressures will fall below expectations.
  • In typical applications, the reduced port model 206-PR-R is often the best selection.

  • The pilot valve senses the downstream pressure through a connection at the valve outlet. Under flowing conditions, the pilot reacts to small changes in pressure to control the valve position by modulating the pressure above the diaphragm. The downstream pressure is maintained relatively steady at the pilot set-point.
  • The pilot check valves direct downstream pressure above the diaphragm to close the valve when the system pressures reverse (when the downstream pressure is higher than the upstream).

    4Matic V-ball V "notch" is an exclusive design that allows precise flow with the ability to modulate and control the flow with 30°, 60°, or 90° degree V "notches".  The V-Ball valve is a low maintenance valve with a tight bubble shut off feature.  All valves have high manageability with the ability to work in high temperature (up to 1000°F) and in pressures as high as 500PSI (liquids) and 150PSI in steam.  V-Ball valves are low cost comparable to valves of similar pressure drops and Cv's with low flow control (as low as 0.07).  Our V-Ball valves can come in manual configuration or actuated for automated processing and control.
