  • Back pressure regulators work differently than standard, or pressure reducing regulators, and it is important to define the difference.
  • Pressure reducing regulators reduce a higher supply pressure at the inlet down to a regulated lower pressure at the outlet (downstream). Back-pressure regulators work the opposite way. They regulate the higher inlet (upstream) pressure by opening up only as much as necessary to hold back the desired pressure at the inlet (upstream).
  • Back pressure regulators work just like relief valves, but the emphasis is on steady state pressure control instead of on/off pressure protection.

The 4Matic Direct Acting Water Pressure Reducing Valve, commonly used in homes, commercial buildings, and manufacturing plants, operates by automatically reducing water pressure from the supply main. It maintains a constant and functional pressure even when supply pressure fluctuates.
Water enters the valve and is constricted within the valve body. An adjustable spring-loaded diaphragm and disc control the flow through the inner chamber. This ensures a steady water flow at a functional pressure, as long as supply pressure is above the valve's preset pressure.
The valve features an internally pilot and piston operated system, offering accurate regulation across various flow rates. Its design, with a full lift type main valve assembly and Globe-type body, enables high flow rates with accuracy. It's ideal for continuous distribution applications, maintaining constant outlet pressure despite changes in inlet pressure or flow rate. The pilot and main valve assembly work together to provide a secure shut off.
Stainless steel trims make the valve suitable for Steam, Air & Gas applications at low and medium pressure. A removable cap allows for easy adjustment, and the enclosed spring chamber prevents fouling due to atmospheric conditions. The valve can be serviced without removing it from the line.
